Dealer’s XX is repackaged Kodak Double-X, a black and white film with a unique character. Starting with the grainy overall impression, the strong contrast between soft lights and hard blacks. A shimmer/glow often forms around strong direct light sources. The film can be used in an extremely wide range of applications from ISO 100 to 1600 and invites you to experiment with its properties, which change depending on the developer. Here is a detailed review of the film.
Films that were shot on this material: Schindler’s List, Raging Bull, parts of Memento & The French Dispatch
Motion Picture Film: There ist no remjetlayer, the film can therefore be delivered to the lab as normal black and white film. The sample images were developed in Kodak D-76, which comes closest to Kodak D-96, which was specially designed for Double-X. Furthermore, D-76 ensures a fine grain. HC-110, on the other hand, makes the film look even grainier. Here you can find a very in depth comparison between Double-X in Rodinal vs. D-76 vs. D-96.
